REVIEW-MY THOUGHTS ON INKWRIT
Sometime last year in June, I stumbled upon a flier on my friend’s Whatsapp status calling for voluntary creative writers.
You know my passion for writing, I quickly signed up to be part of this group not minding that there was no pay, and little did I know that today, I’ll be talking about them in this review.
This platform as you already know is called Inkwrit and according they’ve been around the block for the past six (6) months.
What is Inkwrit?
Inkwrit is a creative writing platform, created to meet the writing needs of aspiring writers by providing all-round writing tips and book marketing tips. They do this by interviewing pro writers in different industries. Likewise, it’s also a platform where you can post your short stories in any genre. If by chance your genre is not part of their allocated genres you can request by contacting them.
My Experience so far
I would say that as a relatively new site, they have done quite a lot, I’m not here to sing about Inkwrit but to tell you my genuine thoughts about them so you can be well-informed. At least I owe you that.
Remember I said Inkwrit is a new site unlike Wattpad, Medium, and their likes who have been in the game for a long time, however, I must say that my time with them has been quite a wonderful experience and I have been able to write there and also read Wonderful stories.
What are their benefits?
From what I know, Inkwrit has not started paying their writers, I believe this is a work in progress, at least they should be considering to start paying soon if not now. But were there other benefits? My answer is yes! Inkwrit as a way to communicate directly with their writers created a Whatsapp group.
And every week they provided writing prompts to them, since I was part of them I received these prompts as well. And I must say they helped me and helped to shape my writing experience. I used to write whatever came to my mind but with Inkwrit’s help, I learned to use prompts and I tried other genres of writing outside my comfort zone.
How is their content?
Like I said earlier, their prompts kind of pushed me out of my comfort zone. However, regarding their content, I think their content is okay and sort of similar to the content on Medium and platforms like Iko Africa.
Although some of their genres need to be fattened out, I believe this platform is on its way/risr to being a spectacular platform for budding writers.
Through Inkwrit, I met a writing critic who has since become a mentor and friend.
She has critiqued my writing and motivated me to do better and write with a sense of zeal than just for pleasure.
Yes, I would say that some of the writing tips were things I knew before but I just knew them, I didn't practice it until I joined the platform.
What is their community like?
When Inkwrit started initially, they did pretty well in building a viable community using WhatsApp as their meeting place and I felt a sense of community. We'd read each other's stories and poems and encourage ourselves. But you know things are not always rosy, as a result of some series of hosting issues that after our stories, some writers lost focus.
Aside from this hosting issue that they had then I would say I was able to network with other writers and readers as a result of the community they built and also got out of my comfort zone to participate in several writing contests so kudos to them.
How easy is the site?
I found Inkwrit to be very user-friendly and easy to navigate especially when you want to make submissions, edit your stories or articles, and share with others. It's a real gem and very easy.
Conclusion
Well, I know you would be wondering if I am still with Inkwrit, yes I’m still with them. And I don’t have problems being with them, every startup company must face one or two challenges and I believe Inkwrit has faced theirs.
In the beginning, they had the issue of hosting problems as the site was still new and moving from one hosting company to the other and stories were often reposted but last year they announced that they had moved from their Nigerian hosting company to an American hosting company.
Other than the hosting issues they had last year, there is no other challenge I can tell you of as an active member.
Will I recommend them? Yes! Why? From what I learned Inkwrit is a site created for budding writers to show their creativity, advertise their books, and learn directly from expert writers. So if this is what they mean to do, then I don’t mind recommending them.
Without further ado here is the link to sign up with Inkwrit. Good luck!!!
