It was all too familiar. They’d been here before but it was just a little different. He knew her antics and he knew what she would do next.

Her hands cradled the vase gently as callousness crept into her smirk.

“Don't do that Becca, it's really, expensive,” he began but was interrupted by a yelp from his throat.

His blood pooled against his yellow socks like a canvas.

“Who in God's name is she? Why is she in your house at this time, Russell?” Becca screamed as she yanked off her blonde wig and used it to hit Anika who was standing behind Russell.

“Stop it!” he shouted and Becca flinched for a split second.

“Why should I? Now you prefer ’em Indian girls over me? Huh?” Becca asked Russell.

But her eyes were fixed on Anika, condescendingly.

“Anika is not my girlfriend or anything like that. She's from my church and we are part of the evangelical department. She brought me food because I've been sick for four days now… matter of fact… why am I explaining this to you?”

“Because you owe me that. I'm your girl.”

“You didn't realize you were my girl when you stopped picking up my calls for two months and blocked me on all your social media handles. Matter of fact — when you went on a yacht, I had no idea you were in Vegas having the time of your life except when your sister posted on her IG story ‘Go girl, you rock!’ I also, didn’t know until later that you had another man in your life who you were planning to marry, and I was just ‘that church boy' you kept around, Becca,” he finished angrily but cursed under his breath when his other foot pierced by a piece of shattered vase.

“I already explained. I had to travel for charity. You can’t say that sort of thing in front of a stranger…”

He groped his foot.

“She's not a stranger, you are.”

“I'm your woman babe. We have been together for a year now. Doesn't that count for anything?” Becca asked, a pout on her thin lips.

“That’s when I was being deceived, by Jezebel. I don’t want to see you near me anymore.”

“The bible said forgive thy neighbor. After all, to err is human and to forgive is divine. I know you know I made a mistake and that’s all in the past. Let us build our relationship again for the better,” Becca pleaded.

“Get out of my house you narcissist!” Russell shouted, despite the pain in his foot as he shoved Becca out of his apartment.

A single tear escaped his eye.

“Are you okay?” Anika asked.

“You should leave too,” he said and walked into his room, his eyes clouded with grief.
